abstract = {In this brief paper, we propose a time-domain data-driven method for model order reduction by two-sided moment matching for linear systems. An algorithm that asymptotically approximates a key interpolation matrix from time-domain samples of the so-called two-sided interconnection is provided. Exploiting this estimated interpolation matrix, we determine the unique reduced-order model of order ν, which asymptotically matches the moments at 2 ν distinct interpolation points. Furthermore, we discuss the impact that certain disturbances and data distortions may have on the algorithm. Finally, we illustrate the use of the proposed methodology by means of a benchmark model.},

While this framework originally started as a revisitation of the moment matching method, in the last 15 years it has expanded to provide solutions to the model order reduction problem for general classes of systems, such as nonlinear, time-delay, stochastic, and hybrid, and to give insight on topics as diverse as circuit analysis and optimal control. The main theme of the paper is the characterization of “interconnection behaviors” as primary properties to be maintained by the reduction process. The survey is enriched by historical notes on the development of the interconnection framework.},

abstract = {This paper considers the problem of model reduction for Lur'e-type models consisting of a feedback interconnection between linear dynamics and static nonlinearities. We propose an optimal variant of the time-domain moment-matching method in which the H∞ -norm of the error transfer-function matrix of the linear part of the model is minimised, while the static nonlinearities are inherited from the full-order model. We show that this approach also minimises an error bound on the L2 -norm of the steady-state error between the responses of the full-order nonlinear model and the reduced-order nonlinear model. Furthermore, the proposed approach preserves both the Lur'e-type model structure as well as global stability properties. The problem is cast as an optimisation problem with bilinear matrix inequality constraints. This problem is then solved using a novel algorithm, although global convergence of the algorithm is not guaranteed. The effectiveness of the approach is illustrated in the reduction of a structural dynamics model of a linear beam with nonlinear supports.},

abstract = {Model reduction by time-domain moment matching naturally extends to nonlinear models, where the notion of moments has a local nature stemming from the center manifold theorem. In this paper, the notion of moments of nonlinear models is extended to the global case and is, subsequently, utilized for model order reduction of convergent Lur’e-type nonlinear models. This model order reduction approach preserves the Lur’e-type model structure, inherits the frequency-response function interpretation of moment matching, preserves the convergence property, and allows formulating a posteriori error bound. By the grace of the preservation of the convergence property, the reduced-order Lur’e-type model can be reliably used for generalized excitation signals without exhibiting instability issues. In a case study, the reduced-order model accurately matches the moment of the full-order Lur’e-type model and accurately describes the steady-state model response under input variations.},
